Probability: Student Performance Analysis

There are three categories of students in a class of 60 students:

  • A: Very hardworking students (6 students)
  • B: Regular but not so hard working (26 students)
  • C: Careless and irregular students (Rest of the class)

It is found that the probability of students unable to get good marks in the final year examination is:

  • • Category A: 0.002
  • • Category B: 0.02
  • • Category C: 0.20

Answer the following:

(i) Find the probability that a student selected at random is unable to get good marks in the final examination. [2]
(ii) A student selected at random was found to be one who could not get good marks in the final examination. Find the probability that this student is NOT of category A. [2]
